EMERGENCY CALL TO ACTION: Stop the Attacks on Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security!
Tuesday, 7/26, Noon, In Front of Every Congressional Office in America
This weekend, it became 100% clear that Republicans would rather see America default, Social Security checks stop going out and unemployment soar than give one inch on their position: that the very richest people and most profitable corporations shouldn't pay one penny more in taxes. They’re proposing Trillions in spending cuts but no tax increases. No kidding.
What is the debt ceiling exactly? It's a cap set by Congress on the amount of debt the federal government can legally borrow. The cap applies to debt owed to the public plus debt owed to federal government trust funds such as those for Social Security and Medicare.
Now, with the fate of our whole economy hanging in the balance, we call on every person in this country to show up outside local offices of your US Representative on Tuesday, at noon, to deliver a crucial message: "Millionaires and Corporations must PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE! Hands off Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security!
We will demand that Republicans in Congress stop holding America hostage to protect tax breaks for millionaires and corporations. Spending cuts to key social safety nets is not the answer.
America is not broke. We are the richest country in the world. If we work together toward a new vision for our communities and cities, the dreams we carry for our families and our communities are within reach. Let us now rise in defense of those dreams, against right-wing Radicals whose misguided ideology would destroy our future.
