Shireen was born in south India and grew up in Oman, Canada, and the midwestern US. Before joining Right to the City, Shireen worked as a designer at EMILY’s List, where she made graphics highlighting inspiring women running for office and helped organize a staff union. After ICE raided her neighborhood in DC, Shireen got involved in local organizing and continues to learn from the brilliant organizers and community members she meets. She has supported grassroots efforts to win legal representation for detained immigrants, release folks from detention centers, and show up for neighbors through mutual aid. In her free time, Shireen loves sharing good food with friends and family, looking at and making art, and visiting beautiful gardens.
